There Lies The Port

I just finished a class that will certify me to TEACH first-aid, CPR/AED. That’s great.

In the process I learned that there are just 2(two) AED units on the entire island.

That truly shocks me.

These two guys are just hanging out for a meal.

Well, as some of you may know, I have had this idea of building a simple homestead on the farm in Virginia.

Still do.

It took me till today to realize that in some ways this apartment is an example of my idea. How?

Well, this house is basically a cement box. I am in the foundation, but above ground, with cement walls externally and internally with a main room, a bedroom and a small bathroom.

No paneling or flooring. The roof is sort of wall board with little to any insulation.

Here is the basic floor plan.

So, I’ve become something of a minimalist (after my NY experience) and thought about building a minimalist style place. But whereas this concrete box is above ground…an island being what it is…in the country side it would be sheltered on 4 of 6 sides by the cooler land if it was an in-ground home. (Sara’s basement is always cool).

A bit bigger than this floor plan, maybe 1000 square feet.

Anyway, enough for tonight. Just thinking out load. I’m still a minimalist.
