Rough Toothed Dolphin

Just prior to Jordan’s AOW night dive, we were all prepped and on the boat about 40mins early. Captain Wags pointed out that a pod of Rough Toothed Dolphin has entered the harbor and were entertaining snorkelers and themselves.

“Was anyone interested in dropping in?”

The answer was “Duh, yeah!”

We cruised out about 2 minutes away with a bunch of people that threw their gear on at the last minute.

We got out and about 3-4 boats of about 50 divers total were swimming around with the dolphins super close and entertaining. (Our rules are strict-no touching and no duck diving). I stayed on the boat to spot.

The pod was out there entertaining waves of divers from a bunch of shops for hours. We had one lucky student that was there for Open Water Course (beginner) that hadn’t even started yet. Talk about lucky.

As I may have mentioned before, our captains are incented to find dolphins and whale shark for divers to snorkel with. The experience cost Jordan about $8. I think I paid $500 for a similar experience for him in The Keys 15 years ago, and that was in a confined lagoon.

As I may have mentioned, the night dive was epic too.

Good times.

Last Week

Now that the site is back to normal, I can fill in some gaps.

Here is a shot of me and Jordan doing a buddy check prior to a dive. He is rocking the same XS fins he wore when he did is first dive 15 years ago. His 13 feet barely fit in…no booties tho. How he got those on…
Diving+Heat+Cervezas = Snooze
You may have seen this “Lionfish” art in the prior picture. Story below.
The locally invasive species Lionfish.

So the “Lionfish” art. I noticed the “piece” in my roommates room. He said that yes, he created it, and it was indeed a Lionfish….after the fact.

The Rest Of The Story. It was actually a board that he used to mix a bit of potting soil while planting basil. Only after the fingered soil dried that he noticed the unintentional masterpiece.

Fixed

Looos like things are repaired. Thank goodness. Thanks for your patience.

It’s funny being back in US. Drinking out of the tap, consistent AC.

Had a chance for a quick ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A long drive but worth it. Beautiful countryside.

I have lost about 22 pounds. It’s been almost three months since I last rode. The course today was quite hilly as you would expect and I was feeling it. It was a short ride of only about 10miles because it started raining pretty hard in the mountains. The descents were a little slick. Will be riding again tomorrow before I head to Boone to visit my daughter Savannah. May do a ride there…hilly there too.

Repairs Today & A Brief Update

I’m hoping to have the site repaired today and will posting more material. Thanks for checking in.

Jordan and I had a night in Roatan before the flight out yesterday. Had some decent “Texas BBQ.” Roatan does not not have Roatans charm for sure.

I’m back in the states this week and it’s a strange feeling after a few months. The AC is cold, the showers warm and cars fast.

This little guy in Roatan.

Epic Day Even With System Issues

Still had system issues but yesterday Was pretty epic.

Jordan has been here since Saturday. He is taking the Advanced Open Water class, I’m assisting.

Yesterday we did 3 dives. 2 in the AM, and then a night dive. Just prior to the night dive, a pod of rough toothed dolphins came into the harbor and were extraordinarily playful. I played look out on the boat. Jordan and about 50 others from various dive shops dropped in and played for 15-20 mins. They were super close and doing tricks. Some of the folks were brand new divers and had never experienced anything like that. I had never seen such in the wild. Apparently they were looking at the divers face to face. Inches apart.

Later the night dive revealed 3 octopus just sitting there changing colors (white, brown, green, blue), a small squid and 2 huge crabs with bodies about the size of a dinner plate.

Finally we went out for dinner and a few drinks. We got back to the apartment about midnight and then…power outage on the island for half hour.

It was slightly overcast but still got an ok view of the Milky Way.

All in all awesome day and he is loving. Im so glad he made it down.

Will try to fix this display issue. Sorry, it’s quite irritating.
